The mysterious murder case of retired FBI agent Scott Horn is back in the spotlight as it is revisited in an episode of Dateline.
Scott Horn, a 62-year-old former FBI agent, spent over two decades working for the bureau. Initially handling drug cases, kidnappings, and bank robberies, Scott later took on less intense assignments, focusing on performing background checks on government job applicants. Scott was a family man, married to Anne Reed Allen, a nurse, and had two children – a son named Riley and a daughter named Kelly.
Tragically, Scott was found dead outside his home in Laurel, Maryland, on March 16, 2017. His body was discovered by his son, showing signs of severe beating and a gunshot wound to the neck. Despite the gunshot not being fatal, it was determined that Scott was beaten to death.
Anne Reed Allen, Scott’s wife, was charged in connection with his murder. She faced multiple charges, including first and second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and the use of a handgun in the commission of a crime. Prosecutors alleged that Anne killed Scott for a life insurance payout and to profit from his rental properties.
After spending 18 months awaiting trial, Anne Reed Allen was ultimately acquitted of all charges by a Prince George’s County jury in November 2018. Her lawyer highlighted the couple’s turbulent relationship as a potential reason for her being accused of Scott’s murder.
Following the acquittal, Anne faced additional charges related to attempting to influence state witnesses and obstruction of justice. She could potentially face significant prison time if convicted of these new charges.
The case of Scott Horn’s murder remains unsolved, leaving many questions unanswered about the tragic death of the retired FBI agent.
