A man in his late thirties has found himself in trouble after allegedly stealing a significant amount of money from his girlfriend. Ebenezer Addoh, unemployed at the time of the incident, reportedly took GH¢46,700 from his girlfriend’s safe. However, when he was apprehended, only GH¢2,000 was recovered.

Addoh confessed to the authorities that he had spent the stolen money. Despite being charged with theft, he pleaded not guilty in court. The Accra Circuit Court, under the jurisdiction of Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, granted Addoh bail in the amount of GH¢40,000. Additionally, he was required to provide two sureties who are civil servants earning at least GH¢2,000.

The court recommended exploring Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and adjourned the case to July 2. The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth Frimpong, disclosed that the complainant, a trader in Accra, was a victim of Addoh’s alleged theft. The complainant’s sister, Paulina Asiedu, served as a witness in the case.

The incident occurred when Addoh visited the complainant’s residence and encountered Paulina. After resting in the complainant’s bedroom, Addoh departed. It was later discovered that the safe in the bedroom had been tampered with, and the GH¢46,700 was missing. Despite the complainant’s inquiries, Addoh steadfastly denied any involvement in the theft.

The situation escalated when the complainant reported the theft to the authorities, resulting in Addoh’s arrest. During interrogation, Addoh admitted to stealing the money and acknowledged spending a portion of it. Subsequently, GH¢2,000 was recovered from Addoh and held as evidence for the investigation.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of trust and security in personal relationships. The legal process will continue to unfold as Addoh faces the consequences of his alleged actions.
