UK weather: England experience the wettest January since 1976

According to the Met Office, the period between January and June of this year was the driest in England since 1976.

The National Drought Group convened on Tuesday to talk about how to deal with the situation as water levels were getting low.

The group refrained from issuing a drought declaration, but water providers have begun implementing the first phases of their drought plans by advising customers to save water.

It follows last week’s breaking of the UK’s temperature record.

The south-east of England has experienced especially dry weather, while temperatures and rainfall have been lower in the west, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

To explore how to safeguard supplies, representatives from organizations like as the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), the Environment Agency, the National Farmers’ Union, and the Country Land and Business Association met with water businesses.

After months of below average rainfall, they are advising people to save water, but there are no consumption restrictions in place in England.
