UK train drivers vote in favor of strike

Drivers at Arriva Rail London, Northern Trains, TransPennine Express, Chiltern Railways, Southeastern, West Midlands Trains, LNER, and Great Western supported strikes on Monday, according to Aslef, the organization that represents drivers.

 

A few minutes later, the lesser-known Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association (TSSA) disclosed that hundreds of its members at Southeastern had also decided to strike.

 

Tens of thousands of members of the two unions have voted to walk out due to salary disagreements. Strikes are always a last-resort measure, according to Aslef general secretary Mick Whelan.

 

To avoid strikes, the government implores the train unions to return to the negotiation table.
