A live snake was concealed inside a bag of broccoli that a grandfather unexpectedly opened. Neville Linton, 63, reportedly described spotting the newborn ladder snake, which can bite cruelly, as a “frightening” incident to SWNS, a British news outlet. He claimed to have bought the broccoli on June 2 from an Aldi in Stourbridge, West Midlands, England.

He told SWNS that three days later, he pulled it out of the fridge to use in making dinner. At that moment he saw the snake. The snake was picked up by Linton’s family since the industrial cleaner claimed to be scared of snakes.

Linton, a native of Birmingham and a grandfather of one, described it as pretty terrifying. I’m not very good at handling snakes. The broccoli would have been loose inside the house if I had simply left it out in the kitchen, he added. It would have been quite dangerous for us because we have two frail people living here.

He claimed that he had bought the broccoli on one of his regular weekly trips to the grocery. When he unwrapped the broccoli on his kitchen counter, he claimed to have seen a small critter curled up under the stem.

He asserted that after determining it was too big to be a caterpillar, he phoned his 57-year-old sister Ann-Marie Tenkanemin, who identified it as a snake. They packaged it in a plastic bag and delivered it back to the Aldi where they had originally made the purchase.

He said, “I initially believed she was joking, but I backed off when I saw it start moving. The business owner was also a little scared. Donovan Linton, the 41-year-old son of Neville Linton, claims that an expert at the Dudley Zoo recognized the snake as a young ladder snake. Although he claimed to have gotten some money, the senior Linton insisted that he is still looking for more.
