The Ashaiman Circuit Court fined two siblings, Safianu and Aishatu Osumanu, GH₵1320, for verbally attacking four public authorities.

Mr. Simon Gaga presided over the court, which sentenced the twins after they admitted guilt to five charges of assault on public servants, insulting behavior, and disruption of court proceedings.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Christian Oscar Norgbedzi said that the complainants included Ms. Millicent Zogli, a janitor at the Ashiaman District Court, as well as Inspector Henry Tetteh Nartey, Corporal David Kwame Nyong, and Lance Corporal Rebecca Addo, all of whom are public officers.

The event occurred on February 1, 2024, when the siblings, who were accompanying their mother to court for a civil matter, disrupted proceedings by verbally attacking police and creating a ruckus.

Safianu, in particular, used harsh words towards the first complainant, while both siblings refused the police’ attempts to preserve order, leading to their detention and subsequent court appearance.

In lack of paying the penalties, the siblings risk a three-month jail sentence.
