Two more individuals have been apprehended at Somé Senior High School in the Ketu South Municipality for their alleged involvement in a scheme to steal food supplies designated for students. The Assistant headmistress and a cook were taken into custody alongside the previously arrested matron and bursar.
The arrests took place after alumni and an Assembly member intercepted the bursar and matron as they were leaving the school premises. Upon inspection, a stash of food items, including tin tomatoes, mackerel, cleaning agents, and insecticide spray, was found in both a bag and the car’s trunk.
Following these initial arrests, the police detained the Assistant Headmistress for further investigation. The Senior Housemaster, Byron Kwakutsey Kpeli, revealed that the theft had been ongoing for a long time, causing mixed feelings within the school community.
All four suspects are set to appear in court on Monday, May 27, 2024, to face charges related to the alleged theft of food supplies. The police have conducted investigations, and the storekeeper has been invited for questioning in connection to the case.
This incident has raised concerns about the management of resources at the school and the need for increased oversight to prevent future occurrences of theft. Students and staff are awaiting the outcome of the legal proceedings to bring accountability and justice to those involved in the theft of food supplies meant for students’ consumption.
The Somé Senior High School community is hopeful that these arrests will lead to positive changes and greater transparency in the handling of resources within the school premises. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
