Two jailed 45 years for robbing banker at gunpoint

An Adentan Circuit Court has sentenced Benjamin Aboagye, also known as Rapture, to 35 years in prison for robbing a banker at gunpoint in Pantang, Accra.

This came after the trial concluded with the 28-year-old musician Aboagye being found guilty of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Mrs. Sedinam Awo Balokah, the court’s presider, gave Aboagye a 20-year sentence for conspiracy and a 35-year sentence for robbery. The sentences must be read aloud in succession.

Amos Tetteh, the driver who waited and moved the loot, was found guilty of aiding and abetting criminal activity and received a ten-year prison sentence. It is said that one Ben, who plotted with Aboagye, is still at large.

The complainant was a banker (name withheld) who lived at Pantang P and T, according to the prosecution, which was headed by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo.

According to Chief Inspector Lanyo, Tetteh and Ben who is currently at large—lived at Pantang Hospital, while Aboagye lived at Firestone, close to Madina.

The prosecution stated that on November 4, 2021, at approximately 1:30 am, two armed men entered Pantang P and T, attacked the complainant with a pistol, and stole a 65-inch Samsung television valued at GH¢24,000, an HP desktop computer valued at GH¢10,800, two PlayStation 4 systems valued at GH¢6,000, as well as cash amounts of $22,000 and GH¢6,000.

According to the prosecution, Tetteh was found driving a Toyota Vitz with the license plate GE 130-20 carrying the loot when the Adenta Divisional Patrol Team arrived on the site after the complainant contacted for police help.

Tetteh was taken into custody, the prosecution informed the court, and the complainant named the objects as having been taken from his room.
