Claudia Winkleman, who co-hosts the dance show with Tess Daly, announced the news on her Radio 2 show.
Skelton, 39, previously appeared in 2012 Strictly Christmas special. On Sunday, she will debut a new show on BBC Radio Five Live.
She stated that she was “really excited to get stuck into a fun adventure.”
The BBC One dancing competition will return in September.
Skelton joins a list of celebrity contestants that includes singer and presenter Fleur East, Paralympic swimmer Ellie Simmonds, and Bros singer Matt Goss.
Skelton, who has also appeared on Countryfile and Blue Peter, told Winkleman that she only agreed to participate “the other day.”
“I did the Christmas one last year,” she explained. “The hair is amazing, the makeup is amazing, and the costumes are amazing.” Who gets to go to work and be made to look like Beyonce while having a good time?’ “I thought it was insane not to do it; of course, I should do it because it will be so much fun.”
