Thomas Tuchel has now spoken out after being fired by Chelsea, describing the situation as very disappointing. The German also expressed his heartbreak over while writing his first statement since his dismissal.
The 49-year-old Tuchel was fired on Wednesday morning, hours after his team’s 1-0 Champions League loss to Dinamo Zagreb.
In a quick, ten-minute meeting, he pleaded with the new owners to keep him on and give him more time, but Boehly and his staff had already made their choice.
(This is one of the most difficult statements I have ever had to write,) said Tuchel, who received a £13 million payout just a year after winning the European Cup. (I hoped I would not need to do this for many years,) he said.
(I am devastated that my time at Chelsea has come to an end) Tuchel added. I felt both professionally and personally at home at this club.
(I want to express my gratitude to the entire staff, the players, and the fans for making me feel so welcome right away. The pleasure and joy I experienced when I contributed to the team’s victories in the Champions League and the Club World Cup will last a lifetime).
