At the 27th Milestone, experienced Saintfield rider, Davy Morgan crashed on the third and last lap.
The organizers released the following statement on Monday evening: “The Isle of Man TT Races can announce with sadness the death of Davy Morgan in an accident on the penultimate lap of the first Supersport Race of the 2022 Isle of Man TT Races.
“We express our heartfelt condolences to Davy’s girlfriend Trudy, as well as his family, loved ones, and friends.
“At 52, Davy had considered retiring from racing in recent years, but the COVID-mandated hiatus had taught him what life would be like without racing.”
Davy told the News Letter in 2020 that the Covid lockdowns had forced him to postpone retirement.
“Being away from racing has given me the opportunity to think about what motorbike racing means to me, therefore I have no desire to retire from the sport for the foreseeable future, and it’s been a huge part of my life for 27 years now,” he added.
“I’ve had the opportunity to explore what life would be like without motorcycles, and I’m pleased I did because if I’d decided I was done, I’d have been devastated.”
