The highly anticipated criminal trial of former US President Donald Trump has kicked off in New York with a rocky start. The selection of potential jurors began with half of them being dismissed within minutes due to impartiality concerns.
Mr. Trump is facing allegations of falsifying business records to cover up a hush-money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office claims that Trump directed his former attorney to pay $130,000 to Daniels in exchange for her silence about an alleged sexual encounter, which Trump denies ever happening.
The challenges of finding impartial jurors for the case were evident as 60 out of 96 potential jurors admitted they could not be unbiased. Those remaining were subjected to detailed questioning, including inquiries about their media consumption habits and their opinions on Trump.
