The Ghana Police Service has apprehended the driver of a Hyundai truck with the license plate number GS 9018 – 20 for his alleged involvement in a collision with a Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line on Thursday, April 18, 2024.

According to initial investigations conducted by the police, the driver purportedly abandoned the vehicle on the railway tracks, resulting in a collision with the train.

This incident occurred during a site acceptance test on the Tema Railway line, as confirmed by the Ministry of Railways Development on the same day. The collision took place when the newly imported DMU train encountered a stationary vehicle obstructing the railway tracks at Km76+100.

Despite the driver’s cab of the train sustaining minor damage, no injuries were reported. The CEO of the Railways Development Authority, Mr. Yaw Owusu, has stated that the manufacturer of the train will cover the costs of repairing the damaged parts.

Mr. Owusu emphasized that the train has not been officially handed over to the Ghanaian government. The investigation by the police is ongoing to gather further details about the incident.
