On January 24, 1999, Tristan Wirfs, an offensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League, was born. He participated in collegiate football at Iowa.

Wirfs played high school football at Mount Vernon High School, where he also excelled in wrestling and track & field. After winning the state discus throw as a sophomore, Wirfs got scholarship offers from Iowa State and the Iowa Hawkeyes the following month. He committed to Iowa in the winter of his junior year, in December 2015, as a four-star prospect.

Wirfs started seven games as a right tackle as a true freshman, becoming the first offensive lineman under Kirk Ferentz to start a true freshman. Throughout the season, he focused on developing greater aggression toward defenders.

Wirfs started each of the Buccaneers’ 17 games before suffering an ankle injury in the Wild Card round of the playoffs that prevented him from participating in the remainder of the 2021 campaign. After a second strong season of play, Wirfs was named to the Pro Bowl first team and won a position on it.
