Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-reigning queen, died Monday, prompting an outpouring of condolences and tributes from politicians, singers, film and television stars, sports teams, and cultural organizations.

“For my entire life, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II has always been there,” said Stones leader Mick Jagger, who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 2002. I remember watching her wedding highlights on TV as a child. I remember her as a lovely young girl who grew up to become the nation’s much-loved grandma. My heartfelt condolences go out to the Royal family.”

Dame Helen Mirren, who won an Oscar for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen, described her as “a lady who, with or without the crown, was the essence of nobility.”

Sir Elton John said the Queen was “an amazing presence to be around who guided the country through some of its finest and saddest crises with elegance, kindness, and dignity.”

President Biden gave a long statement in which he committed to maintaining the US-UK “special relationship,” stating, “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was more than a queen. She defined a generation.”

The Rolling Stones, who have been around for a long time, stated in a statement that the Queen “was a continuous presence in their life as in countless others.”
