March 14, 2024 is when Richard Appiah’s trial will begin. Appiah is a draftsman who is suspected of killing two youngsters and storing their bodies in a refrigerator at Abesim, close to Sunyani.
Appiah, who is rumored to be a football player, had previously entered a not guilty plea before the Accra High Court.
He is accused with two charges of murder, although he has denied killing the two minors, Stephen Sarpong, 15, and Louis Agyemang, 12.
Following the end of the Case Management Conference (CMC), the Court, presided over by Justice Ruby Aryeetey, set the commencement date on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.
Senior State Attorney Nana Ama Adinkra stated during the CMC that the prosecution will be depending on the records mentioned in the summary of evidence that is appended to the indictment that was submitted on May 31, 2023.
She stated that these records comprise the accused person’s investigation caution statements dated August 21, 2021, their further investigation caution statements dated August 23, 2021, and their September 10, 2021.
She also informed the court that they would be depending on the autopsy findings of Louis Agyemang Jr. and Stephen Sarpong, which are dated May 25, 2023 and December 16, 2022, respectively.
She added that the prosecution will use images of Stephen Sarpong’s body as well as pictures of the deceased’s garments, slippers, and partially burned clothing.
Photographs of the accused’s double-door refrigerator that were purported to contain Stephen Sarpong’s body parts as well as the accused’s charge statement from November 10, 2022, would also be utilized as evidence.
The mother of the late Louis Agyemang Jr., Thomas Agyei, “is indisposed and was not in Accra and we hope he can recover in time to take his Witness statement,” and she later requested permission from the court to file an additional witness statement.
Faustinus Yirilabuo, the accused’s attorney, informed the court that he had received the disclosures as made public by the prosecution.
Since then, the prosecution has been ordered to summon their first witness, and Justice Ruby Aryeetey, the presiding judge, has set March 14, 2024, for the start of the trial.
