Griner, a Houston native, and Phoenix Mercury center has been jailed since February when Russian investigators claim she was seized with cannabis-derived vape cartridges in a Moscow airport.
Griner was photographed entering the courthouse in Khimki, outside Moscow, early Friday. As she walked down a stairway wearing a Jimi Hendrix T-shirt, she looked to be looking straight ahead.

She hasn’t made any public remarks since her custody, so it’s unknown what she thinks about the charges leveled against her or what she claims happened leading up to her arrest.
According to Butler, Russia’s criminal code allows a judge to impose a term that is less than the minimum, but attorneys must make a compelling case.
Many circumstances surrounding Griner’s trial have remained unknown. Butler predicted that she would face a bench trial rather than a jury trial and that the judgement would be rendered on the same day the trial ended.
