News has it that a 29-year-old trader, Osman Boustani, has been sentenced to 150 days imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for threatening another trader with a sword.
Boustani had been charged with threat of harm and had pleaded not guilty to the charge. However, during the hearing, he changed his plea to guilty and was subsequently convicted and sentenced accordingly.
The incident occurred on April 9, 2022, at about 3 pm, when Boustani parked his vehicle on Osu Oxford Street, where the complainant, Mr. Yussif Iddrisu, had displayed his African wears for sale.
Iddrisu approached Boustani and requested that he move his vehicle forward to allow pedestrians to have a clear view of his displayed goods. Boustani however became offended and insulted Iddrisu with a threat to beat him up.
He even attempted to execute his intention before he was stopped by people at the scene.
Boustani later returned to the scene holding a sword and threatened to kill Iddrisu. The complainant and one other person sought refuge in a nearby jewelry shop, but Boustani followed them and continuously hit the door of the shop with the sword, threatening to kill Iddrisu. Fortunately, the door was locked, and he could not gain access.
The prosecution, led by Police Chief Inspector Richard Amoah, presented these facts, and the court sentenced Boustani to prison to serve as a deterrent to others.
