In Accra, the AfCFTA Young Entrepreneurs Federation (AfYEF) formally introduced the first iteration of the Trade Queen Africa (Miss Traq) initiative.
The goal of Miss Traq, a beauty pageant, is to empower African adolescents and women via entrepreneurship and financial independence.
The Trade Queen Africa project’s fundamental goal, as highlighted by AfYEF President Siita Sofo Hissan during the launch, is to bridge the gap between the various parties and elements that make up the African trade arena.
As per the tagline, “Beyond beauty, fostering trade,” its unique selling point is looking beyond physical beauty to mobilize and educate women and youth through entertainment and awareness creation about economic potential.
In an effort to address issues like the underrepresentation of women in economic decision-making processes when it comes to international trade, Mr. Hissan claims that the project “evaluates participants based on their ability to enhance the economic well-being of women and collaborate with market women.”
Miss Traq, with the theme “Harnessing African Beauty for Women’s Empowerment, Trade and Investment,” is open to all nations in Africa as well as the continent’s diaspora.
