Torben Ulrich, the father of famous Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, unexpectedly passed away at the age of 95.

Ulrich was born on 4 October 1928 in Copenhagen. He the son of Ulla Meyer and tennis player Einer Ulrich.
Torben Ulrich, a well-known tennis player, won multiple awards and titles, including the 1951 Antwerp International singles championship and the 1953 Stuttgart Open. Subsequently, he shifted his focus to professional tennis, eventually topping the global rankings in 1976.
He was a passionate journalist as well as having taste in music and movies. He played the clarinet for a period in a jazz group he founded that had a New Orleans vibe. In collaboration with Lori Goldston, he founded the musical group Instead Of and released the widely acclaimed CD Oakland Moments.
In addition, Ulrich directed two movies, The Ball and the Wall and Body & Being: Before the Wall, in 1988 and 2002. As Lars Ulrich, the great tennis player’s son, wrote on his father’s passing, online users reacted with condolences.
