Anthony Steven Evers, an American politician and educator born on November 5, 1951, has been the 46th governor of Wisconsin. He was the Democratic Party’s Wisconsin State Superintendent of Public Instruction from 2009 until 2019.
Evers launched his run for governor of Wisconsin on August 23, 2017, taking on two-term Republican incumbent Scott Walker. Walker was viewed as a weak incumbent and has received criticism for his stance on education.
In August 2018, Evers won the Democratic primary. Mandela Barnes, a former state lawmaker, won the lieutenant governor contest and will be Evers’ running partner. In the general election, the duo triumphed over the Scott Walker-Rebecca Kleefisch slate.

Evers is married to Kathy, his high school sweetheart. They have nine grandkids and three grown children. Evers underwent extensive surgery in 2008 after being diagnosed with oesophagal cancer.

Evers is the son of Jean (Gorrow) and doctor Raymond Evers, was born in Plymouth, Wisconsin, in 1951.
“As a kid, scraping mold off of cheese” was his first employment, which he had in Plymouth. Evers worked as a caregiver at a nursing home as a young adult. He was a Plymouth High School student.
