Tony Dow the actor who played America’s big brother as the oldest sibling Wally Cleaver on the television classic Leave It To Beaver, died today.
He was 77 years old

Dow had been battling cancer.
According to a message on his Facebook page:
“It is with a sorrowful heart that we inform you of the death of our dear Tony this morning.”
Tony had a lovely spirit; he was kind, sensitive, witty, and modest. It was certainly a pleasure to be around him. His calm voice and modest demeanor were immediately soothing, and you couldn’t help but fall in love with him. The world has lost an incredible human being, but we are all better off because of the memories he has left us.
Thank you Tony, from the pleasant reminiscences of Wally Cleaver to those of us who were lucky enough to know him personally. And thank you for the memories of a simpler time, the fun, the companionship, and the sense that you were our older brother. “We’ll miss you.”

Dow specialized in abstract bronze sculpture and was one of three American artists chosen for the 2008 Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts show at the Louvre.
Lauren, Dow’s wife of 42 years, survives him.
