Anthony George Coe was an English jazz musician who played clarinet, bass clarinet, flute, soprano, alto, and tenor saxophones, among other instruments.

He was born on November 29, 1934, and sadly passed on yesterday, March 16, 2023.

Coe began on clarinet and taught himself tenor saxophone. In 1949, at the age of 15, he joined his school’s trad band (Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys) and two years later, at the age of 17, he became a full professional with Joe Daniels. He joined the army at the age of 18 in 1953, playing clarinet in the military band and saxophone in the unit Dancing Band.

It’s worth mentioning that Coe supplied soundtracks to a number of films, including Superman II, Victor/Victoria, Nous irons tous au paradis, Leaving Las Vegas, Le Plus Beau Métier du Monde, and The Loss of Sexual Innocence. He also composed the soundtrack for Camomille’s film.
