Tom Joyner, who served as First AD on major films like Clint Eastwood’s Bronco Billy, George Roy Hill’s Slapshot, and Steven Spielberg’s Jaws, passed away on February 22 after a protracted battle with cancer and heart disease. He was 79.

The family is yet to announce the funeral plans to the general public.

After Joyner was accepted into the DGA assistant directors program, his career in film officially began. Beginning with films like Spielberg’s Sugarland Express, Eastwood’s High Plains Drifter, and Robert Aldrich’s Ulzanas Raid, he worked as a Second AD.

He worked as a First AD for the first time on Steven Spielberg’s legendary movie Jaws, and afterwards he worked on several other well-liked movies.

The Blues Brothers by John Landis, Starman by John Carpenter, Against all Odds by Taylor Hackford, Poltergeist I by Brian Gibson, and Tender Mercies by Bruce Bereford were among the films on which he later worked as unit production manager.

Afterwards, he served as Vice President of Feature Production at Warner Bros. from 1985 to 1987 and Executive Production Manager for Walt Disney Pictures (1990-1996).
