Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, has been invited to be a “distinguished panelist” at Harvard’s Africa Development Conference (ADC), which will be held on April 12th and 13th, 2024, at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
ADC is the premier global platform for meaningful discourse on Africa’s development, facilitating critical conversations that shape the continent’s future. Kenyan President William Ruto, Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Angolan President João Lourenço, WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and Former Credit Suisse CEO Tidjane Thiam will convene to discuss progressive policies and partnerships for Africa’s development.
The continent’s progress and potential in the face of global challenges are highlighted by this year’s theme, Africa Delivers: Pragmatic Paths to Prosperity, which touches on important areas including law, governance, international relations, economics, business, technology, environment, security, health, education, media, and the arts.
The panel on trade in and with Africa is highly anticipated by the organizers, who feel that Togbe’s vast knowledge and experience in this field is invaluable. The panel will talk about how the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) can strategically address issues with energy supply and transportation infrastructure, as well as its transformative potential and implications for trade in Africa going forward.
Togbe’s “deep engagement in the field of trade and commerce” makes him an ideal panelist, according to the organizers, who also note that he is a member of the Board of the World Trade Centers Association in New York and serves as the Executive Chairman of World Trade Centre Accra. His leadership and company-establishing contributions demonstrate his expertise in finance, economics, corporate advisory, and infrastructure development—all of which are crucial aspects of trade in Africa. They stated their opinion that Togbe’s insights will significantly enhance the conversation about the AfCFTA’s capacity to transform trade partnerships and contribute to the general discourse on Africa’s development path.
This gathering of well-known individuals emphasizes the event’s importance as a forum for discussion and cooperation on workable solutions to advance the continent toward sustainable development and emphasizes the value of utilizing the knowledge and experience of African leaders in this area.
In light of this, Togbe Afede XIV’s invitation, who had previously attended Harvard’s Annual Global Empowerment Meeting, not only recognizes his contributions to African economic development but also gives him a platform to discuss his vision for the continent and his perceptions of tactical methods for addressing infrastructure deficiencies and guaranteeing energy security.
The Harvard Africa Development Conference 2024 is anticipated to be a historic occasion, providing partnerships and practical insights that will be crucial in enabling Africa to realize its full economic potential.
