A recent dog attack in Accra left a two-year-old boy in critical condition, but thanks to the quick actions of medical professionals, he has undergone a successful surgery.
Dr. Hope Glover Addy, a Pediatric Surgeon at the Korle- Bu Teaching Hospital, performed plastic surgery on the affected area and diverted the stool to the abdomen to aid in the healing process.
The boy was attacked by a mixed shepherd breed dog while his mother was briefly away, leaving him with severe injuries to his anus and private parts. Dr. Addy explained that the success of the toddler’s recovery will depend on the final surgery, which is yet to be performed.
Despite the severity of the injuries, Dr. Addy remains hopeful for the boy’s recovery, but notes that there is a significant financial burden on the family due to the intensive treatment required.
The boy’s future surgeries and recovery will continue to be monitored closely by the medical team at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
