Maxwell Osei-Gyamerah, a farmer and former National Chairman of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Workers’ Union, has acknowledged his hope to be the next New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Ofoase-Ayirebi Constituency in this year’s general election.
He is among the three individuals who have effectively navigated the procedure to compete in the party’s primary in the seat alongside the current Member of Parliament on January 27.
The current MP, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, is being challenged by Mr. Osei-Gyamerah and Eric Owusu-Mensah.
According to Mr. Osei-Gyamerah, in an interview with the Daily Graphic, the party’s lack of leadership in the past five years has made it unpopular in the constituency; as a result, it would be advantageous for the party and its goal of breaking the “8” to have a new face as a parliamentary candidate.
In order to help the NPP maximize its votes and break the “8,” he said, “My human relationship as a grassroots person is a great asset for the party to leverage.”
He claimed there was no main market day for the farmers to sell their produce, despite the fact that farmers made up the majority of the constituency.
Mr. Osei-Gyamerah promised to spearhead the introduction of a significant market day for the district so that farmers could sell their produce after consulting with the people and chiefs.
“In fact, the MP needed to be changed if the NPP hopes to break the ‘8’ in order to instill fresh enthusiasm in the party’s youth and supporters. Once more, he claimed to have registered more than 100 firms for young people involved in trade and vocation in order to support the local economy and create wealth and jobs.
“My goal is to enhance the youth’s human capital so they can become financially independent.”
Without a question, education is crucial. “I’ll keep helping talented but underprivileged students fulfill their dreams,” he declared.
