Tjahjo Kumolo formerly served as Minister of Home Affairs in President Joko Widodo’s Working Cabinet from 2014 to 2019.
He had been a staunch supporter of former President Megawati Sukarnoputri and a prominent member of her Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
Between 2010 and 2015, he was Secretary-General of the PDI-P, and between 1999 and 2014, he was a member of the People’s Representative Council (DPR), where he was the speaker of his party’s group until his replacement by later colleague Minister Puan Maharani.
