Thubten Zopa Rinpoche cause of death: How did Thubten Zopa Rinpoche die?

Lama Zopa Rinpoche, a well-known Tibetan Buddhist master, and Spiritual Leader died on April 13th, 2023,  in Kopan Monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal. Rinpoche had been suffering from altitude sickness while on retreat in the Tsum Valley and needed to be airlifted back to Kathmandu immediately.

When Rinpoche returned, he stopped breathing, and despite efforts from the main croaker at Karuna Hospital, he couldn’t be revived. His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, was informed of Rinpoche’s passing and is advising his academics and followers through this difficult period.

Rinpoche’s body has been on display at Kopan Monastery, where lamas and monks alternate offering prayers and pujas. Khadro-la, Rinpoche’s close convert, has recommended his followers to use this time to practice bodhicitta and contemplate on evanescence in the lamrim atmosphere, as well as to accomplish Rinpoche’s noble desires.

Rinpoche was well-known for embodying bodhicitta and highlighting the need of putting teachings into action. Rinpoche’s passing is a profound loss to the Buddhist community, but his teachings and legacy will continue to inspire and benefit many beings.

His devotion to the spread of Tibetan Buddhism, as well as his never-ending efforts to promote peace and compassion, will be dearly missed.
