Otto Addo pleased the committee enough to beat over other applicants for the position, according to Kojo Addae Mensah, one of the important members of the group entrusted with finding a new coach for Ghana.
Kojo Addae Mensah said in an interview with Luv FM that he was astounded by Otto Addo’s ability to wow the committee and stand out from the more than 100 managers that sought for the position.
“Yes, there were more than a hundred submissions, but I was really pleased by Otto Addo. I have to say that he showed me that he understood the squad and himself, and he also shared with us what, in retrospect, he would have done differently.”
He emphasized that the former Borussia Dortmund player set himself apart from the other coaches since he knew the players and was aware of the ‘Ghana Football DNA’ philosophy of the Ghana Football Association.
“He is aware that the GFA has etched their DNA, and he is familiar with the players’ psyches. We were quite impressed, I must say. In spite of the fact that there were a lot of other amazing persons as well, Otto stood out as being particularly remarkable.”
On Friday, March 15, 2024, Otto Addo—who is beginning his second term as Black Stars coach—was revealed. He takes over for Chris Hughton, who was fired following Ghana’s 2023 Africa Cup group stage loss.
Joseph Laumann, a German football coach from Morocco, will be his first deputy. Former Black Stars player John Paintsil will be his third in command. Former goalkeeper Fatau Dauda will take on the duty of goalie trainer.
The Otto Addo-led technical team’s first job is to play Nigeria on March 22 and then the Cranes of Uganda in Morocco on March 26.
