Thirteen individuals have recently been apprehended by the police for their alleged involvement in filling and illegally developing sections of the Laboma and Teshie Military shooting range. This location is situated within the Kpeshie Lagoon region in the La Dade-Kotopon municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
The Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) conducted an inspection that revealed significant filling activities within the Kpeshie Lagoon area with structures at various stages of construction. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, Chairman of the REGSEC, assured the media that unauthorized structures would be demolished in the upcoming days.
During a press briefing, Titus-Glover emphasized, “They were picked up because we wanted to get the right people who own these structures. Some are ordinary workers; when you ask them, they will tell you that they were sent here to work.” He further added that those responsible for directing the individuals to carry out the construction work would also be brought to justice.
The REGSEC Chairman affirmed, “This one is closer to the Kpeshie; we will pull it down. There is another on your left, and they are building at the edge of the Kpeshie, and we will pull that one down too. At the far end, close to the shooting range, it will also be pulled down.” Titus-Glover called on the community to cooperate in identifying the individuals who facilitated the sale of the land for development, as traditional leaders denied having sold the land to anyone.
The situation remains under investigation as legal proceedings are initiated against those involved in the illegal filling and construction activities in the protected military shooting range area. Stay updated for more information on this developing story.
