Mr Ofosu Asamoah, the Executive Secretary of the National Labour Commission (NLC), has expressed concern over the high level of mistrust between labour unions and the government.
This distrust often leads to industrial actions by the unions, despite government assurances to address their demands.
In an interview with TV3’s Kemmini Amanor on the Hot Issues show, Mr Asamoah emphasized the impartiality of the NLC, stating that the commission cannot show bias towards either the government or the unions.
He also touched on the ongoing negotiations with teacher unions regarding an improved condition of service. According to Mr Asamoah, the disagreements in these negotiations are primarily based on financial issues, prompting the involvement of the Finance Ministry.
The challenges of mistrust between labour unions and the government continue to impact the progress of negotiations and agreements on labour issues in Ghana.
