The Weeknd’s live performance is nothing less than a rave before the end of the world, if his “Dawn FM” album is compared to a dance party in hell.
On Thursday at Lincoln Financial Field, the emotionally charged singer-After songwriter’s Hours Til Dawn stadium tour finally took started.
The launch was postponed last weekend in the performer’s hometown of Toronto due to a widespread internet failure that prevented venue operations.
This was in addition to the COVID-19 postponements during the previous two years.
When The Weeknd, wearing a plastic face mask, climbed from one of the burned-out building models set up as part of a skyline on the main stage for “Alone Again,” from his huge 2020 album, “After Hours,” that pent-up yearning to perform came to the surface.
The Weeknd then poured his stunning upper range over a trio of “Dawn FM” songs, including “Gasoline,” “Sacrifice,” and “How Do I Make You Love Me,” energizing the sold-out audience of more than 45,000 people as he did so.
