The general assembly of the United Nations has been warned by Prince Harry of a “global assault on democracy and freedom.”
The repeal of abortion rights in the US, where the Duke of Sussex currently resides, appears to be included in that.
The “retrenchment of constitutional liberties here in the United States,” he said.
Prince Harry emphasized the “havoc” of climate change and the “horrific war” in Ukraine at a UN ceremony honoring Nelson Mandela.
“How many of us feel battered, helpless, in the face of a seemingly endless stream of disasters and devastation?” said Prince Harry, in his keynote speech in New York.
Prince Harry also cautioned against the harm disinformation may do by “weaponizing lies,” in addition to the harm the epidemic, climate change, and Ukraine war had already done to the world.
In reference to the US Supreme Court’s recent decision that there is no constitutional right to an abortion in the US, he spoke of the “rolling back of constitutional rights.”
