Professional boxer Amanda Serrano left fans disappointed when she had to cancel a much-anticipated fight against Nina Meinke in Puerto Rico. The fight was scheduled to take place on March 2, but Serrano had to pull out last minute due to an eye injury caused by a chemical during a hair appointment.
The announcement of the cancellation was made just minutes before the fight was supposed to begin at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot in San Juan. Jake Paul, the promoter of the event, broke the news to the audience from inside the ring.
Despite generating £1.1 million in sales for the bout, the fight was called off and refunds were promised to ticket holders. Serrano, visibly emotional, stood by as Paul addressed the crowd and later revealed that she suffered the injury while running with a chemical entering her eye.
Although Serrano sought medical advice and tried to fight, the commission’s doctors deemed her unfit to enter the ring. Serrano later took to social media to apologize to fans and promise refunds to those who purchased tickets.
Serrano, a professional boxer, wrestler, and mixed martial artist, has achieved great success in her career, winning awards such as Female Boxer of the Year in 2016 and 2018. She is also known for being the sister of fellow boxer Cindy Serrano.
Jake Paul, a professional boxer and online personality, founded Most Valuable Productions in 2021, which hosted its first boxing event in May 2023. Despite not fighting each other, Serrano is signed to Paul’s promotional company and has seen significant success since joining.
Serrano’s nephews are big fans of Paul, and she acknowledged the impact he has had on her career. Despite the setback of the cancelled fight, Serrano remains optimistic and grateful for the support from her fans and Puerto Rico.
