Love triangles can often lead to complicated and sometimes dangerous situations. In the case of Jon Hickey, his involvement with Daniel Greene’s ex-mistress proved to have deadly consequences.

A true crime exposé on Dateline NBC shed light on the murder of Jon Hickey and the subsequent first-degree murder case against Daniel Greene. The chilling episode, titled The Killer On Camera 4, premiered on Friday, March 1, 2024.

Jon Hickey, a dedicated volunteer firefighter in Baltimore, Maryland, met a tragic end in November 2017. His body was discovered in his home on East Pratt Street, with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

Investigations revealed a figure breaking into Hickey’s home days before the murder and leaving through the back door shortly after. After interviewing Hickey’s loved ones, police honed in on the prime suspect – Daniel Greene, the ex-boyfriend of Jon’s then-girlfriend, Jennifer McKay.

Greene, a married father with a history as a firefighter, had a tumultuous relationship with McKay and was known to be jealous and obsessive. Evidence pointed towards Greene as the perpetrator of the heinous crime.

Greene borrowed a truck, disabled his phone, and was caught on surveillance footage breaking into Hickey’s home the night of the murder.

Despite the absence of the murder weapon, a combination of video evidence, electronic surveillance, and witness testimonies led to Greene’s arrest in December 2017.

After a long trial process, Greene was found guilty on all counts, including first-degree murder, home invasion, and use of a firearm in a felony violent crime. He was sentenced to life in prison in February 2024 by Judge Ronald Silkworth.

Despite appeals for a new trial, Greene’s guilt in the murder of Jon Hickey remains firmly established. His conviction serves as a reminder of the tragic consequences that can unfold from misguided jealousy and obsession.
