Asante Kotoko’s struggles in the ongoing Ghana Premier League campaign have been attributed to a fear of failure on the part of the players by Dreams FC coach Karim Zito. The Porcupine Warriors currently sit in 11th place in the league standings, having experienced their seventh loss in nine matches after falling to Dreams FC on Sunday.
Zito believes that recent booing by fans has led to a fear of failure among the players, affecting their performance on the field. He emphasized the importance of supporting the team, including coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, until the end of the season.
“The fear of failure has gripped the players, I saw it on the field of play when we played them,” Zito said, expressing concern that players may start feigning injuries to avoid matches. Despite the team’s struggles, Zito urged the players to focus on avoiding relegation rather than winning the league.
Zito also defended under-fire coach Ogum, stating that it would not be a wise decision for the club to part ways with him. “I don’t agree,” Zito said in response to calls for Ogum’s sacking. “No one can tell me Prosper Narteh is not a good coach, he is a good coach. In football, there are moments that can be positive or negative, and that’s what’s happening with Ogum at the moment.”
Asante Kotoko is set to face log leaders Samartex in their next matchday, looking to turn their fortunes around in the Ghanaian top-flight.
