Former President John Dramani Mahama has called on President Akufo-Addo to ensure that the upcoming elections are free, fair, and credible.
Speaking at the Gonja Land Youth Congress in Damongo, Mr Mahama emphasized that a peaceful and transparent election would be the best legacy for President Akufo-Addo as he completes his two terms in office.
Mr Mahama also highlighted that the power to choose the next leader does not rest with President Akufo-Addo, but with God. He reminded the President that it is God who ultimately selects leaders, not individuals.
In response, President Akufo-Addo expressed his gratitude to the chiefs and residents of Wa for their support throughout his term.
He mentioned his intention to revisit the region with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, whom he sees as his successor. President Akufo-Addo made it clear that he does not intend to transfer power to John Dramani Mahama after his term ends in 2025.
As the political landscape heats up ahead of the elections, both leaders have emphasized the importance of peace and stability in the country.
President Akufo-Addo reiterated his commitment to maintaining peace during the election season and beyond, stressing the need for support and cooperation from all stakeholders.
With the democratic reputation of Ghana at stake, both leaders are keen on ensuring a smooth transition of power in the upcoming elections.
