In the teen soap opera Grange Hill, actress Gwyneth Powell played Mrs. McClusky, the headmistress. She passed away at the age of 76.
Since 1981, the Manchester-born actress has dominated the series as the strict yet fair headmistress.
In the Channel 4 comedy Man Down, she portrayed Greg Davies’ mother Polly. She has made appearances on programmes like Heartbeat, A Touch Of Frost, and Holby City.
Powell’s agent Matthew Lacey stated that she passed away “after a major procedure” due to difficulties.
Last Thursday, her husband, actor Alan Leith, and niece were by her bedside as she “went away quietly,” according to him.
He continued, “Gwyneth will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends in addition to her many followers from her numerous TV appearances.
Powell began her career as a teacher before devoting herself to repertory theater in the late 1960s, which is appropriate considering her most well-known performance.
Since she had recently gotten married, she subsequently reflected that getting her first television job in the 1971 London Weekend Television drama series The Guardians was fortunate.
