Ghanaian rapper Lyrical Joe has expressed his disappointment at not winning the Best Rapper of the Year award at the Ghana Music Awards in 2023.

The rapper claims that his nominated song had all the necessary elements to secure the win, but he was snubbed in favor of Amerado.

During an interview on TV3’s New Day on May 24, Lyrical Joe voiced his frustrations, stating, “Personally, I feel cheated. My songs that get nominated for Best rap performance, it is boot for boot. If it is being judged by the board, you will pick every of them. I am the only person that almost has a ten-minute rap song in the category with a ten-minute music video with different deliveries, puns on puns, everything that they said that it’s been looked for so anytime any of my fifth August songs gets nominated and it doesn’t win, I feel cheated.”

Amerado emerged victorious in the ‘Best Rap Performance’ category with his track ‘Obiaa boa,’ surpassing other talented artists like Medikal, Strongman, Lyrical Joe, and Teephlow. The win was a contentious one for Lyrical Joe, who believes he deserved the accolade.

The rapper’s remarks have sparked discussions among music enthusiasts, with many expressing their support for Lyrical Joe and questioning the transparency of the award selection process. Despite the setback, Lyrical Joe remains steadfast in his belief that he is the best rapper to represent Ghana and vows to continue producing great music for his fans.
