Charterhouse PRO Robert Klah reveals reason behind exclusion of Best Group of the Year category at TGMA
The Public Relations Officer for Charterhouse, Robert Klah, has shed light on why the Best Group of the Year category has been missing from the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) nomination list in recent years.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Mr. Klah explained that the category has not been included due to the lack of competitiveness. He stated that the board will only consider reintroducing the category when they find a strong competition for it once again.
According to Mr. Klah, since 2021, all the entries for nomination in the Best Group of the Year category have failed to meet the required criteria, leading to its exclusion from the nominations list.
“If an artiste or group is not on the list, it simply means they did not meet the criteria if they filed for nomination in the year under review,” he stated.
He also encouraged groups to submit applications for other competitive categories based on their achievements in the year under consideration.
The last time the Best Group of the Year award was given out was in 2021, with Bethel Revival Choir emerging as the winners. Despite the presence of groups like R2Bees, La Meme Gang, and DopeNation in the music scene, they have not impressed the TGMA board enough to earn a nomination in the Group of the Year category since 2021.
Bethel Revival Choir made history in 2020 by breaking the curse of a gospel group winning the Best Group of the Year award for the first time. Their victory in 2021 marked the last time the award was presented at the TGMA.
