It is recommended that owners of mechanized wells and boreholes get the water quality tested to make sure they are using safe drinking water and are not putting their health at risk.

Groundwater sources are being more and more used for both residential and commercial purposes, raising questions about their safety that have led to the need for this request.

Dr. Freda Akosua Prempeh, the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, who provided the advice, said that testing the water was essential due to the serious health risks connected to using untreated groundwater.

The minister stated that testing the groundwater was a better safety measure that would assist avert any harm that the use of untreated groundwater posed last Monday during a news conference in Accra.

The purpose of the news conference was to announce the Water Resources Commission’s (WRC) planned exercise to evaluate the quality of groundwater in homes and communities across the country.
