Following their embarrassing four-goal loss against Brentford on Saturday, Erik ten Hag chastised his Manchester United players for disobeying two directives.

Four goals in the opening period from Josh Dasilva, Mathias Jensen, Ben Mee, and Bryan Mbuemo completely destroyed United, continuing Ten Hag’s disastrous start as manager.

Less than a week had passed since his team’s opening-day loss at home to Brighton when they suffered this humiliating defeat in West London.

In a thorough post-game press conference, Ten Hag stated that he felt sad for the club’s supporters following his team’s disappointing performance. He also emphasized the necessity for the team to get more talent.

Lisandro Martinez, the team’s most notable acquisition this summer, was taken off at halftime against Brentford following a challenging first half.  While Christian Eriksen played the full 90 minutes but, like all of his colleagues, struggled to make an impression, Tyrell Malacia, another newcomer, was added at the half.

After the game, Ten Hag examined his team’s performance and identified two areas where the players had fallen short of his expectations. It was a sign of the team’s ineffective responses to challenges and setbacks during games, which have been a long-term tendency.

When asked why he thought everything went so wrong against Brentford, Ten Hag responded to reporters by saying, (I urged them to play with belief and take responsibility, that is what they didn’t do.)
