The Director of Tema Port, Mrs. Sandra Opoku, has expressed confidence in the port’s preparedness for the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). She emphasized that the Tema Port is well-equipped to provide efficient port services to support the success of the trade agreement, which aims to enhance intra-Africa trade.

Mrs. Sandra Poku made these remarks during a visit by a business delegation from Kenya to the port. The delegation had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the port’s operations, engage in discussions with Ghanaian counterparts, and gather firsthand information on trading activities.

The Chief Executive Officer of Eminence Global, Mikaela Mwangura, and the Volta, Oti, and Eastern Regional Chair of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Dela Gadzanku, led the Kenyan delegation. Ms. Mwangura highlighted the importance of Ghana as a strategic trading hub in West Africa and emphasized the need for collaboration between Ghanaian and Kenyan entrepreneurs to promote intra-trade on the continent.

Mr. Gadzanku expressed Ghana’s eagerness to export finished products to the Kenyan market and welcomed the opportunity to facilitate the market entry of Kenyan products in Ghana. The visit was described as an enlightening experience for the delegation, as it allowed them to strategize on overcoming potential challenges in trading activities.

Dr. Eddie Akwetey, the Tema Regional Chair of AGI, commended the operations of the Tema Port and pledged the support of AGI in the region to establish a robust logistical base for West Africa. The visit underscored the commitment of both countries to leverage the opportunities presented by AfCFTA to boost economic cooperation and trade relations.

Overall, the visit of the Kenyan business delegation to the Tema Port signifies a significant step towards enhancing trade partnerships between Ghana and Kenya, in line with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
