Owner of the Washington Nationals Ted Lerner passed away at the age of 97 following complications brought on by pneumonia.
Early on Monday morning, the group issued a social media statement confirming Lerner’s demise. According to a Nationals spokeswoman, Lerner passed away at his Chevy Chase, Maryland, home on Sunday as a result of complications from pneumonia.
After the club was relocated to the nation’s capital from Montreal, where it had previously played for more than three decades as the Expos, Major League Baseball sold the Nationals to Lerner’s company for $450 million in 2006.

According to several reports, Lerner died Sunday of complications from pneumonia at his home in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
Lerner was ranked 143rd among the 400 richest Americans according to Forbes at the time of his passing. Additionally, he was included as No. 637 on the publication’s list of billionaires.
Prior to handing up control to his son Mark in 2018, he was the managing main owner.
