The nation’s teacher unions are about to publish a detailed policy paper that addresses how to improve both the overall quality of education and the working conditions for teachers.
The announcement was made by Angel Carbonu, President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), who stated that the document had been carefully reviewed and that issues and problems in the educational system would be successfully resolved if it were to be implemented.
“Leadership of the unions has prepared a document that we are going to share with the political parties and we will be engaging the political parties on the document that we have prepared,” he stated on JoyFM’s TopStory on February 12.
Mr. Carbonu indicated that copies will be delivered to pertinent stakeholders as soon as everything is finished, but he did not specifically state when the document will be ready.
“By next week, the document will be completed. I’ll send you a copy so that we can compare some of our recommendations and see which political party opens up to include them in its manifesto.
“Now, let’s have a more thoughtful conversation or debate about the powers of a politician and the expectations of the public,” he continued.
The NAGRAT president said, “We will suggest to the political parties, how to be able to save money and protect the revenue of the state to provide for our needs and wants,” in response to inquiries about whether the nation’s budget could support their demands.
