Elizabeth Téa Pantaleoni was born in New York City on February 25, 1966. Her father Anthony Pantaleoni was a corporate lawyer, while her mother Emily Ann (Patterson) worked as a dietitian and nutritionist. In addition to her Polish, English, Irish, Scottish, and German ancestry, her paternal great-great-grandfather was Italian. While Téa enrolled, she never completed her studies at Sarah Lawrence College. In 1989, she debuted as an actress in Santa Barbara (1984) as Lisa DiNapoli. She then appeared in supporting parts in the 1992 film A League of Their Own and the 1991 film Switch.
In the short-lived sitcom Flying Blind (1992), she starred. In the 1994 films Wyatt Earp starring Kevin Costner and The Counterfeit Contessa starring D.W. Moffett, she was a leading lady. She co-starred in the smash 1995 film Bad Boys starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. That same year, she featured as a guest on Frasier (1993).
She went on to star in a number of successful films, including Flirting with Disaster (1996), Deep Impact (1998), The Family Man (2000), Spanglish (2004), You Kill Me (2007), and Ghost Town (2008), which she co-wrote with Greg Kinnear.
