Diggs was raised in Rochester, New York’s South Wedge neighborhood after being born in Newark, New Jersey.
Scotty is sometimes jokingly pronounced as “Scottay,” therefore Taye. He went to Rochester’s Allendale Columbia School before transferring to School of the Arts. 1993 saw him graduate from Syracuse University College of Visual and Performing Arts with a BFA in musical theater.
