Tamale Teaching Hospital denies paying ‘ghost names’

The Tamale Teaching Hospital has denied allegations of paying salaries to non-existent staff, also known as ‘ghost names,’ following a joint investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD).

The probe revealed irregularities in the payroll systems of various institutions in the Northern Region, including the hospital and some educational facilities under the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Speaking to Citi FM in Accra, the Public Relations Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Aliu Zuberu, clarified that the hospital had not received any official communication from the OSP. However, he emphasized the hospital’s commitment to transparency and addressing the issues raised.

Zuberu noted the importance of verifying the presence of ghost employees on the payroll and ensuring that only active staff are validated. The hospital is internally assessing the information provided by the OSP and plans to respond accordingly.
