Take precautions amid dusty weather to prevent crashes – NRSA to public

In an effort to reduce collisions, the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has urged the public to drive cautiously.

This is in line with the recent shift in the nation’s weather pattern, which is frequently defined by the blow of dry, dusty winds.

According to a statement released by the Authority on Wednesday, visibility is typically decreased by airborne dust, making it challenging for drivers to see other cars, pedestrians, and road signs.

Therefore, it stated that “it’s crucial that everyone takes extra precautions to minimize risks to prevent crashes” because rising temperatures cause dust storms to occur more frequently.

The National Safety Council advised drivers to adjust their driving to the changing weather by reducing speed, exercising caution, particularly in low-visibility areas, and maintaining a safe gap between their car and the one in front to accommodate emergency braking.

“Keep windows and mirrors clean; avoid excessive speeding and avoid needless overtaking; take note of traffic and construction signs; avoid sudden breaks or acceleration; use the right edge of the road as a guide; use the headlights and fog lights if necessary to improve visibility.”

The article recommended that drivers use advance warning triangles and place them at least 45 meters away from moving vehicles, that pedestrians wear reflective clothing to increase their visibility and lessen the chance of being hit by a car, that owners of broken-down vehicles make sure their vehicles are towed from the road within the allotted time, and that pedestrians exercise caution when crossing the road during this season.
